|This article is about the weapon obtainable in The Consequence. For the shotgun of the same name in The Evil Within 2, see Sawed-off Shotgun (TEW2).|
The Sawed-off Shotgun (referred to as just "Sawed-off" beyond this point) fills the role of the close-ranged powerhouse that excels more up close and personal, while suffering great damage drop off at range. It has good stopping power and can fling a Haunted backwards with a squared-on shot.
With that said, however, the Sawed-off is very stunted in terms of actual combat performance against more than one opponent due to its single-shot nature, its hilariously short effective range and piddly ammo capacity. Furthermore, its reloads, while fast, are cumbersome enough to let most agile enemies close in on the player.
The Sawed-off is the only weapon capable of destroying marked MOBIUS door jams in the later third of the DLC, the application of which is duly demonstrated by the same Haunted Juli acquires the shotgun from. Certain Haunted will also brandish this weapon against Juli, which they (fortunately) fire blindly in an attempt to hit her.
- Do not rely too much on the Sawed-off as a primary weapon, as ammo for it can be scarce in the face of large hordes. Due to its one-shot-wonder nature and abysmal range, it should be reserved for sneak attempts that can potentially go wrong.
- Despite it firing exclusively in single shots during gameplay, it appears that this is simply the result of Juli squeezing both triggers at once to fire two shots simultaneously. This is supported by the fact that it is fired twice when first acquired: one narrow miss at Kidman, and one to finish off its Haunted owner.
- The Sawed-off is used by several armed Haunted in the main story, though it is not made available to Sebastian Castellanos owing to him already having a more powerful Shotgun (two, counting the pre-order exclusive Double Barrel Shotgun) by the time these are met.
