The Assignment is the first DLC for The Evil Within, as well as the first of a two-part DLC, the second being The Consequence. It revolves around Juli Kidman, delving into her past and revealing what her true motives are.

Plot Edit

Chapter 1: An Oath

Kidman will take on the mission of getting Leslie from the stem. She enters the Stem, and while in the forest she is attacked by Oscar Connelly and falls off a cliff. She will then hear Mobius talking to her, and later will attempt to use a keypad. The keypad will not recognize her, forcing her to find the computers to get access.

Ruvik will appear later on trap Kidman. She will be saved by Sebastian and Joseph, only for her and Joseph fall through the ground.

Chapter 2: Crossing Paths

Joseph will turn into a Haunted and attack Kidman. After Kidman defeats him, Shade will attack her whilst she is trapped by fallen rubble. She finally finds Leslie and take him to the church.

Ruvik will appear and attack Kidman through controlling Leslie. She points her gun at Leslie and both Leslie and Ruvik disappear. The False Administrator will then ask her what she are doing and tell her they need Leslie alive. Kidman will tell him it's not possible, and they don't know what Ruvik is capable of. The Administrator will then chase her, forcing her to run. Once Kidman has escaped, the game ends.

Gameplay Edit

The Assignment's gameplay differs heavily from The Evil Within, as Juli cannot use any firearms throughout the DLC. The only tools at Juli's disposal are the Flashlight, Bottles, and on occasion, Axes. It is impossible to directly engage any enemies, so stealth is crucial to survival.

The Assignment also introduces a new gameplay mode called KURIYAMI, which disables all light in the DLC besides the flashlight.

Trivia Edit

  • Shining the flashlight on 5 hidden snails will unlock extra models.
  • There are hidden tracks in the stages that can be played on the main menu.
  • According to the art book, the new enemy Spotlight represents the lighthouse at Beacon Mental Hospital
  • Shade and Cadaver were originally going to be featured in the main game.
